Highlights of our Program:
Bobs and Crow lakes have one of the most diverse and sustainable fish populations of all lakes in Eastern Ontario.
The GBCLA has an important mandate to protect the fish and wildlife populations for future cottager generations.
The most significant achievement of recent programs was the restoration of walleye spawning beds in McEwan Creek, Eagle Creek and End Creek in 2016, that were in accordance with spawning bed practices recommended by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Over $30,000 and many volunteer hours were invested in this major undertaking. As well prior to 2016, significant rehabilitation work was done on Thompson Creek and in the channel between Crow and Bobs lakes, as well as around several islands in Crow lake. The next step in this program is to evaluate the measurable results of the walleye bed restorations.
Our Fisheries program also works with other environmental groups and nearby Lake Associations such as Eagle Lake and Christie Lake on beneficial programs that can be adapted to Bobs and Crow lakes.
Our wildlife program is still in its infancy stage, but its goal is to instill a stronger appreciation for the broad range of wildlife that inhabit these lakes. The extent to which cottagers dearly love this wildlife can be seen in the enormous number of wildlife photos that get taken and circulated on social media sites such as our own GBCLA Facebook page.
